Unistrut® framing channel is well suited for framing photovoltaic solar panels because the material can be used to create an infinite number of dimensional lengths without the need to cut or fabricate the channel. Making a longer or shorter framing section is simple as removing the fastener with hand tools, sliding the channel to the appropriate length, and then re-securing the fastener to hold the panel in place. Because PV panels do not typically come in standard dimensions, Unistrut channel is the framing material of choice for many companies engaged in the fabrication and installation of solar panels.

Unistrut® Energy Solutions division and Tanner now offer pre-engineered racking systems, demonstrating a cost-effective support structure for photovoltaic panels in a wide variety of solar applications, including rooftop, ground and ballast-mounted installations. PV panels can be mounted in a portrait or landscape format. 

Pre-engineered solutions provide labor and material savings to the marketplace. Four new designs meet the wind load, snow load, dead load and seismic requirements of approximately 75 to 80 percent of all commercial solar applications. With minor modifications, the system can be customized to meet more specific requirements.

With a pre-engineered solution, contractors and solar integrators no longer have to wait for an engineering analysis. Accurate costs can also be generated in a matter of days with a 30-35 percent savings over custom racking systems. 

These are flexible, efficient designs that optimize the use of product and affordable materials. The number of pieces has been reduced, providing for simple connections, and lengthened spans to minimize roof or ground penetrations. Ease of installation is critical for the timeline of the job.
