What is NILLWAY® and how is it different from a standard fastener?
NILLWAY® is a patented attachment system from Nill Building Solutions that seals the fastener penetration itself, rather than relying on sealants, gaskets, or field-applied caulking after installation. The anchor flange has an internal threaded port that stays sealed under the waterproofing membrane, so the connection point — where most water intrusion starts — is protected for the life of the installation. |

How does the waterproofing actually work at the attachment point?
The anchor is fastened into the structure before the roof, deck, or wall is membraned. A nylon plug protects the anchor's internal threaded port during the membrane process. Once the membrane cures, you cut a small opening to expose the sealed port, remove the plug, and bolt the base shoe or bracket directly into it. No new holes are drilled through the finished membrane, so the waterproofing layer is never compromised. |

What applications is the NILLWAY® line built for?
Nill anchor flanges (NB1C, NB1D, NB1CB, NB1CB2, NB1X2, NBMIKE, NB1CM, and NB1DM) are used for glass railing and guardrail posts, cable and metal railing systems, rainscreen and stucco/façade attachments, and rooftop post systems for pergolas, pavilions, and deck structures. The same sealed-port approach also applies to fastener penetrations for windows, doors, solar panel mounts, and plumbing or electrical runs through a waterproofed assembly. |

Are Nill anchor flanges code-compliant?
Yes. The NB1C, NB1D, NB1CB, NB1CB2, NB1X2, NBMIKE, NB1CM, and NB1DM anchor flanges are evaluated under ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-4771 for structural load capacity and compliance with the 2024, 2021, and 2018 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). The report also includes a City of LA supplement, a California supplement, and a Florida High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) supplement for Miami-Dade County requirements. |

What is the Nill Post System, and what comes in the kit?
The Nill Post System (Patent No. 12,104,344) is a complete kit for mounting posts on top of an already-membraned roof or deck without penetrating the finished waterproofing. It includes the stainless steel mounting anchor (NB1D), a threaded rod, pre-drilled posts in ipe, mahogany, pressure-treated lumber, or clear cedar, and all required mounting hardware. Because the connection bolts into the sealed anchor rather than through the membrane, posts can be removed and reattached without opening the waterproofing back up. |

What fasteners do I need to install a Nill anchor into different structures?
The anchor itself installs the same way regardless of substrate — pre-drill, drop the anchor in, and fasten down — but the fastener you pair with it depends on what you're anchoring into: self-tapping screws for steel structure, concrete screws for concrete, and lag screws for wood framing (3 in. lags are recommended for solid wood structure). All of these are stocked at Tanner alongside the anchor hardware. |

Which anchor do I need for a glass railing versus a rooftop post or a rainscreen?
The NB1D is the standard anchor for glass railing base shoes and guardrail/handrail posts (ICC-ESR 4771, Patent No. 10,501,939). Rooftop posts for pergolas or deck structures typically use the NB1D as part of the full Nill Post System kit. Rainscreen, stucco, and façade attachments use the NB1C, NB1CB, NB1CB2, or NB1X2 flanges depending on cladding type and load.
