Carbide Burs

One of the most versatile and widely used metal working tool is the carbide bur. Carbide burs are used for numerous applications including: weld preparation / smoothing, deburring, chamfering, pattern making, die sinking, tool making, and much more. Champion Cutting Tool's line of high quality carbide burs are designed and made to handle even the most demanding jobs. Champion’s carbide burs are manufactured in the U.S.A. from C2 tungsten carbide. They are precision machine ground using diamond wheels and automated CNC machinery. This manufacturing process produces consistent geometry, sharp cutting edges, and vibration free performance. A Titanium Nitride coating is added to all carbide burs to provide a superior finish and a longer life, all at no extra cost to you the customer. Tanner offers all the most popular shapes and sizes of carbide burs, including two different types of cut, Double Cut and Non Ferrous. We also offer Long Series carbide burs, which are ideal for hard to reach applications and come with a 6” shank.

Double Cut Carbide Burs have ground chisel type cutting edges, with left and right hand spirals. Double cut burs provide excellent stock removal, fine surface finish, and excellent operator control. Typical applications include: cast iron, steels, titanium, brass, copper, and bronze. Non Ferrous Carbide Burs have open, aggressive cutting edges for softer materials and are designed to avoid loading. Non ferrous burs provide easy chip flow and minimal clogging. Typical applications include: aluminum, magnesium, copper, soft steel, brass, zinc, alloys, rubber, most plastics and non ferrous metals.

Usage Guidelines:

  • Do not use carbide burs in portable drill motors, portable drills run too slow for burs.
  • Higher speeds are recommended when using small burs.
  • Slower speeds are recommended for harder materials.
  • Slower speeds are recommended when using long series burs.
  • Running burs below recommended speeds may cause chipping.
  • Do not use worn out tools and collets, this may cause chipping.
  • Running burs too fast will cause teeth to wear prematurely.
  • Apply constant pressure and steady action.
