Ultra-Con vs Tap-Con Details

UltraCon® Masonry Screw Anchors meet the same construction specifications as Tapcon but with a cost savings of up to 30%. Where can they be used? In exactly the same places that Tapcons are used:

  • Concrete, brick or hollow block
  • Electrical boxes & clips to masonry
  • Wood Headers, plywood or furring strips to masonry
  • Window frames

So what's the catch?
Elco manufactured and sold Tapcon screws for 26 years. Although the product name on the box is now UltraCon rather than Tapcon, the fasteners in the box have not changed nor will they in the future!

The name "Tapcon" is property of another company and Elco was using the name under a Trademark-Use Agreement that had been in place for about 26 years. When the parent company of Elco was sold, the trademark owner had the right to terminate the agreement, which they did.

Why Ultra?

The "Ultra" portion of the new name was chosen for a good reason. Elco felt that their fasteners were always higher quality than those produced by the trademark owner and "Ultra" is reflective of that.

What makes UltraCon® the #1 Masonry Fastening System?

  • Blue Stalgard corrosion-resistant finish withstands 1000 hours of salt spray exposure per ASTM B117. Compare to only 720 hours for Tapcons, which use Climaseal instead of Blue Stalgard.
  • Quick installation, 2 or 3 fasteners per minute
  • Twin-lead threads increase joint integrity
  • Eliminates the need for additional anchors or inserts
